Towns 1st teams miserable start to the season continued with a crushing 6-1away defeat to Stockport Georgians on Saturday.Town who were missing several key players through injuries, suspensions & abscences turned up at Cromley Road with just 11 players,2 of whom had been ill all week & were made to pay for the lack of personnel by a strong Georgians outfit.
Town started the game well creating 3 or 4 decent chances before they took a deserved lead in the 5th minute when Joe Heap hit a superb strike from 22yards out that flew past the home keeper. The first half saw Town giving a good account of themselves & were looking to go into the break with a 1-0 lead but a spell of late pressure from Georgians saw them grab an equaliser in the last minute of the half.
The home team began to get on top in the opening minutes of the 2nd half & they took a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute following a decision that left Towns players perplexed. As the game progressed Town began to tire as Georgians piled on the pressure & a burst of 4 goals for the home side between the 75th & 90th condemned Town to a heavy defeat & but for 2 stunning saves from Simon Sidlow (one which was a penalty save)the defeat could’ve been heavier.
