Recap
A full turnout this weekend against a team we’ve only played once before in the cup where we were beaten in a close game. It was a pretty even game once again with both sides creating chances but it was Rossendale who took the lead on 19 minutes due to some very sloppy defending. A ball straight in from a throw, we didn’t react and it was in the roof of the net from a tight angle. Enter Rahman – he’d been on the pitch for 2 minutes, collected the ball on the halfway line powered past everyone to make it 1-1 with 27 played. That was pretty much it for the first half. 1-1. A similar 2nd half with both teams sharing possession but it was Royton getting the lucky break, a scramble in the box and Harrison managed to get it to Tommy who smashed it home from a couple of yards out. A bit of controversy on whether it was offside or not but the goal stood, 2-1 to Royton. With 7 minutes to go, Royton were looking in control and looming to take all 3 points but some slack play in midfield allowed Rossendale to knock the ball into the corner. A straightforward knock back up the pitch was all that was needed but Rossendale forced an error on us and a defensive mix-up allowed them to equalise, 2-2. One last chance to come with Royton winning a free kick 20 yards out but it hit the wall.
