Royton progressed through to the second round of The Lancashire Amateur Shield after a victory over Poulton FC from The West Lancashire League.. Royton went a goal behind halfway through the first half and in the second period they were almost caught on the break on several occasions as they sought an equaliser..Roytons young keeper Liam Lovell made some vital saves to keep his team in the contest & it wasn’t until the last few minutes of the game that Royton grabbed a much deserved equaliser to make it 1 – 1 thanks to a goal from Aaron Holton..
With the game going straight to penalties Royton came out on top after spot kicks from Rob Flynn, Liam Wood, Luke Heron, Paul Scholes & Alex maloney. aided by a fine penalty save from Liam Lovell earning them a 5 – 3 victory. Must say Paul Scholes penalty was unstoppable pure class. Roytons young goal keeper had a fine game and earned himself the Mom award..
