In a game that both teams were desperate to win Towns 1st team were held to a 1-1 draw with Manchester Gregorians at The Oldham Academy North on Saturday.
In an entertaining game with plenty of incidents played in horrendous conditions Royton had a goal ruled out in the 2nd minute as Joe Jacombs blocked a clearance that bounced down off the bar & seemingly over the line but to the amazement of the Royton players the officials waved play on.
Town scorned several chances to open the scoring before the visitors took the lead following another contentious decision with a Greg’s player playing the ball back from an offside position.Town then had to play out the last 5 mins of the first half & the first 5 mins of the second with 10 men following a needless sin bin offence for dissent.
Half Time 0-1
Within 2 mins of the restart Town were back on level terms as Joe Jacombs pounced to make it 1-1.
The remaining time of the second half saw Town seeking out a winner that would’ve gained them a valuable 3 points as they looked to climb the table but despite plenty of chances they failed to find the net.As in the first half Town had to play out the final 10 mins of the game a man down after another needless sin bin offence which gave Gregorians the momentum and they
threw everything at Town as they sought a winner but 18 year old Harry Fleet in Towns goal made sure his team earned a point with several stunning saves.
Credit to both teams & officials & also the spectators from both sides for battling through the adverse weather conditions.👏👏👏👏
