Royton Town 5 v 3 Beechfield
On another wet and windy day at the Academy, Royton Town struggled to find their feet during a disappointing first half performance.
Although having the majority of the possession, Royton could only manage a few long range efforts that hardly troubled the Beechfield goalkeeper.
It was Beechfield who took the lead midway through the half when Aaron Holton, on his return from injury, committed a foul in midfield.
From 25 yards out, the ball was struck hard and low, and a slight deviance in the flight deceived Liam Lovell in goal and nestled into the corner of the net.
Beechfield then had only their third effort on target as a long crossfield ball found the Beechfield winger, who ghosted in at the far post and bundle the ball past Lovell.
HALF TIME : Royton Town 0 v 2 Beechfield
Royton Town’s management team of Mark Howard and Ian Hulme must have added something a little extra into the half time drinks as Royton sprung out of the traps with Joe Jacomb’snetting an untidy goal immediately after the restart.
Craig Schuman’s equaliser soon afterwards was much more like the football we come to watch and before you knew it Town were 3 v 2 up as Alex Frost rose to head in Ash Ainsworth’s corner.
When Tom Hughes, on his return to the club, finished off another fine Royton move, you could be forgiven to thinking ‘game over’.
But not Royton Town, an awful back pass allowed the Beechield striker a clean shot at goal and Beechfields tails were back up.
Beechfields keeper was sent forward for a couple of corners, and it was on the second of these that Schuman broke away before feeding Joe Jacomb’s who netted his second into the empty goal in the final minute.
Wet and cold, but three points always helps !!
