Royton Town AFC Reserves v Springhead Reserves

In typical wet and windy conditions the reserves carried their performance on from the previous week against local rivals Springhead reserves in the Open Trophy quarter final tie..Both teams started the match very much on the front foot not giving an inch to each other . The conditions did not help the game at all but it was Royton who adapted a lot quicker than the visitors. The game was a very scrappy affair but as i said Royton took the advantage and were to 2 – 0 to the good before half time. Springhead did a lot of pressing in the first half but did not really create a chance. Royton came out second half on the back foot as Springhead took the game to the home team but the defence stood firm and with very few chances in the second half. Later on in the game when Royton did press they eventually scored the killer goal to make it 3 – 0 and into the semi finals.Great credit to Royton playing against a team in the division above them in a respectable 5th position . Semi Finals well done guys. Just a mention to Travis Martin age 16 making his debut as well for the reserves. MoM performance a bit of a tough decision i think all of the back four were outstanding but Aaron Thorpe was the one who stood out for me at the age of 19 he was fantastic as was all of the team.

MoM  Aaron Thorpe
