Royton Town AFC Reserves v Rochdale Sacred Heart Reserves

Royton Town AFC Reserves got back to winning ways at the weekend although it was only a friendly against our local neighbours Rochdale Sacred Heart. Roytons reserves played this team in a pre-season friendly and lost 6-1.. Just goes to show how much the reserve team have developed in the last 6 months and with key players missing made easy work of the win. Rochdale sit 5th in the league above Royton and the visitors were out played for the majority of the game.

Aaron Thorpe opened the scoring with a cracking goal hit from the edge of the box and then Jack Barnes added the second  2-0 up but all credit to Rochdale they kept on pushing and eventually got themselfs back into the game. The game looked to be over for Royton cruising  two goals to the good but when Rochdale drew level Royton upped their tempo and with a fine goal from debutant Mark Hopwood eventually winning the game.

The reserves had three players making their debuts as well so the future is looking good from the young guns.

The player i thought was MoM was Stewart Kay  just because he comes to play every week even though the majority of games he plays he starts from the subs bench. This lads attitude is second to none he turns up and just gets on with it. He got his chance on saturday and had an outstanding game at centre half .  Well done …

MoM  Stewart Kay
