An early season big game for the reserves with both teams undefeated in their respective division..Another big and physical direct side to contend with and Heywood started the game as the better team and deserved to go into a 0 – 2 lead with Royton struggling to establish the fluency that as seen them control their other games so far this season.. The introduction of Farai Hwenga up front saw Royton settle into their possession based game and a stunning strike into the top corner from 25 yards from Farai saw Royton turn the game into there control and with being 1 -2 behind looking the better side the longer the half went on.
An excellent through ball by Andy Simpson saw Farai walz around the keeper and calmly slot the equaliser past the defender on the line to level the game and soon Royton went ahead with Will Morgan finishing from a tight angle to cap of a fine move. At this point it looked a case of how many for Royton as they were in total control but they were outdone by another long ball forward which was finished by the excellent Heywood striker.
A sign of the standards that have been set was that despite being 0 -2 down and drawing 3 – 3 it felt like 2 points dropped rather than 1 point gained..
Excellent performances from Farai Hwenga and Will Morgan & Joe Gidley. But the MoM award had to go to Andy simpson who controlled the game in the middle of the park..
