Pennington FC v Royton Town AFC

Nice bright early start by Town with Ethan Sutcliffe causing the home teams defence all sorts of problems. After 5 minutes he opens the scoring with a brilliant run down the centre. Royton kept on pressing for the reminder of the half and chance after chance went begging . Stroke of luck for the second goal but they all count neat work by Ethan again setting up Liam wood for his first goal of the season. To be fair Royton should of been six or seven to the good way before half time. In the 38th minute the game got a bit tasty with Pennington’s number five just losing his cool. I call it handbags until others got involved but then the guy headbutted a Royton player and the referee had no choice but to send him off. ( NIce to see after the game he offered his hand to apologise to the player involved ).  During this fracas 2 more Pennington players received yellow cards as did a Royton player. Half time score Royton 2 up and well deserved.

Start of the second half it was Pennington that came out of the blocks by pressuring Royton into making mistakes the game became very sloppy from Royton’s point of view. Time to dig in and that’s what they had to do after Liam Wood received his second yellow card in the space of 10 minutes. Pennington did all the pressing but never really had a clear opportunity at Royton’s goal. Their goal came from a free kick which I  think it went through a crowd of players and in. With all the momentum going in Pennington’s favour with the wind behind them down the slope they did not really create a clear chance. Also at the back for Royton Aaron Thorp & Aaron Holton were both outstanding. Josh Hardman  playing left back fantastic. Ethan Sutcliffe in the first half unplayable but to be fair to Pennington they saw him as the danger man and basically had to man mark him for the rest of the game. During the last 8 minutes of the game Pennington’s number 4 was shown a straight red for kicking out at a Royton player but it was the linesman that intervened and he was sent off. Correct decision.. All credit to the referee and his linemen a lot of incidents in a very competitive game 9 out of 10 from me well done. Travis Martin had an excellent game . Jack Howard  as stepped up again from the reserves.  On a positive note some games you need to graft out a result and that’s what Royton had to do well done guys. Nice to see Danny Gilmartin making his comeback after being out for a lengthy spell.

Goals Ethan Sutcliffe, Liam Wood.

MoM  Aaron Thorp & Aaron Holton could not find fault with both of them.
