Recap
Royton will be very disappointed in this result a game that both teams never really dominated as the result was not a fair reflection on the game. On a difficult playing surface the advantage was with the home team as the condition of the pitch probably suited them better. Heywood looked the more aggressive team but Roytons free flowing game never showed up when they needed it. The game was more won in the middle of the park as both teams battled hard against each other. Heywoods second goal was the game changer as the centre forward smashed the ball towards goals Sid pulled of a brilliant save but the ball landed to their winger to slot home but the winger was in front of the ball as it was struck so the rules state he is of side. The referee disagreed. The 3rd goal for Heywood was a slip by Aaron Thorpe at the back who by the way was fantastic on the day but Roytons woes continued Heywood added a fourth in the remaining minutes of the game. This was a very stern test for the young lads at Royton and i am sure this will not set them back in their first season at open age football. The Duracell Joe Gidley was my MoM this guy never runs out of energy fantastic again well done. Also well done to the rest of the team you are doing Royton Town AFC proud ,,,
Like to give Heywoods number 8 a mention Dale Rostron class act at the end of the game pal. His team won but he went over to everyone of the Roytons players to offer his hand and even a well earned hug to console them.
MoM Joe Gidley
