Royton faced their 3rd away game in seven days with a trip to Dukinfield Town & returned with a comfortable 3-0 victory. In the past this as been a very tough fixture for Royton but straight away from the off they took the game to opposition creating chances.. Luke Heron hit a superb effort from 20 yards which looked to be heading for the top corner only for the home keeper to make a tremendous save to deny Royton from an early lead.
Royton kept on pressing & had three good openings in a five minute period.. First was Craig Schumann who broke through but could only find the side netting..Andy Bainbridge then beat the offside trap & also hit a shot which was just wide..Next up Aaron Scholes had an effort what was well saved by the keeper.
Royton finally made a breakthrough in the 25th minute with a goal from Cameron Horner who picked the ball up from the wide right & fired in a brilliant effort into the far top left corner from at least 35 yards.
Royton were playing some excellent football & increased the lead in the 38th minute with a powerful header into the top off the net via Andy Bainbridge from at least 16 yards out.
In the 40th minute Royton lost one of the old guard in Wayne Dooley Dean due to injury ..He was replaced by the younger Billy Dempsey sorry Dooley.. Billys introduction into the game was a corner he crossed the ball over so Luke Heron could head the ball into the net. 3 – 0 half time.
The second half began with Royton creating chance after chance and eventually they were awarded a penalty in the 50th miniute..Billy Dempsey steps up but the keeper saves low down & to be fair the Dukinfield Town keeper was having an an outstanding match.. Royton were not at there best on the afternoon but 3 – 0 good win..
Nice to see Danny Gilmartin making his first appearance with an outstanding display.
