Astley & Tyldesley Reserves v Royton Town AFC Reserves

vs

Recap

Royton came up against a very determined Astley team but the young guns did not disappoint. Royton never really got into the free flowing football they are use to playing but they showed their character against an Astley team consisting of more 1st team players than their reserves. Royton started the game on the back foot and as Astley took  hold of the game straight from the off.. Eventually Royton settled and opened the scoring with a great header from Will Morgan . The game was scrappy and Royton never got into a rythm of their usual free flowing football that we are use to seeing.. Astley pulled one back with a great run from their number 10 he was a constant presence for the majority of the game and he took his goal well.  A few changes in positions made by Paul & Duncan in the second half . Allowing Dave Ashworth to get more forward down the left wing. The switch proved to be a good decision and Dave Ashworth added the second. Royton looked more comfortable in the second half after the second goal went in  and Astley began to tire.. The energetic Joe Gidley in the middle of the park never stopped running his presence and persistence in the middle of the park was a joy to watch hes quiet lad on the park but nothing seems to faze him .Then with 15 mins to go young Will Morgan hobbled of and on came the Boss 49 years young Paul Gidley . To be fair  it could of been Duncan Thorpe at 56  years young but all credit to lads there are times when the footballs not flowing and sometimes you have to dig in and as a team and thats what happened today.. In the last few minutes of the game Royton were awarded a penalty for Jack Barnes to slot the ball home.. Great effort guys  .. Going to award the MoM to Joe Gidley for his never say die attitude he was doing runs all over the park . Well done young man.. Some nice pictures of you and your dad playing in the game as well..
