Altrincham Hale Reserves v Royton Town AFC Reserves

vs

Recap

An early season top of the table clash  with both teams boosting 100% records.  Royton were down to the bare bones with 5 missing & Zach Gemmell making his debut and the gaffer Paul Gidley the only sub. Despite this a stunning performance again by the Royton youngsters against  a very big physical & direct Altrincham team. Royton took the lead midway through the first half with Jack Barnes reacting the quickest after a Will Morgan header crashed against the cross bar. In a classic game of 2 styles with Royton playing their controlled passing game and Altrincham getting the ball forward as quickly and often as they could. The home team levelled with a fine header from a corner which looked to be the only threat they had.  Royton produced their best best half of the season so far and totally controlled the second half by simply having far to much energy and quality for the home side. Jack Barnes added another with a replica of his first by reacting quickly to a save from a fine Zach Gemmall strike.. Jack Howard added the third with a sharp finish following a corner.. Royton could and should have added more Jack Sloane was unfortunate to see 2 fine attemps hit the post. Jack Barnes sat 3 defenders on the floor but blazed over the bar. Jack Howard should of had his brace another opportunity missed.

A fantastic team performance with everyone having made a big contribution but an exceptional display from Aaron Thorpe.. Altrinchams best player impeccably saw him get a well deseved MoM…
